Who Won I’m a Celebrity 2022
It’s been a big week for I’m a celebrity as I returned to Australia after a two-year break. But who will be crowned the King or Queen of the jungle?
The line-up this year has a few surprises. Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock joined comedian Seann Walsh and radio presenter Chris Moyles, Loose Women’s Charlene White, and A Place in the Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas.
Jill Scott
Jill Scott was crowned the winner of I’m a Celebrity 2022 after surviving three weeks in the jungle. The 35-year-old Lioness beat Owen Warner and Matt Hancock to the title.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Scott started as a performance poet. Her early influences were Chaka Khan, Nikki Giovanni, and Gil Scott-Heron. She attended Philadelphia High School for Girls and later Temple University, where she studied English.
After pursuing theater, she joined a local troupe and eventually landed a role in a Canadian production of Rent. During her time in Philly, she also became involved with the Roots’ October Gallery readings, where she was discovered by drummer Questlove.
She then joined the band in the studio to co-write “You Got Me,” which won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Upon signing with Steve McKeever’s Epic-distributed Hidden Beach label, she released her debut album Who Is Jill Scott: Words and Sounds Vol. 1 in July 2000.
The first single off the album, “Gettin’ in the Way,” went to number three on the Adult R& B chart and was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Female R& B Vocal Performance. Another track, “A Long Walk,” missed the Top 40 but made the album a Top Ten R& B/hip-hop release.

Owen Warner
Owen Warner, 23, is best known for his role as Romeo Nightingale on Hollyoaks. He is also a singer and songwriter, having recently released several albums.
In 2022, he was one of three finalists in I’m a Celebrity, along with Jill Scott and Matt Hancock. The trio have been in camp for three weeks, and are currently in the final of the series.
The contestants are participating in gruesome challenges to win their ultimate meal in camp, including a three-course banquet with a starter, main, and dessert. Each celebrity will also take on a challenge to see who will be named the King or Queen of the Jungle.
As he is a huge fan of rugby, Owen will be taking on a few challenges that will see him test his physical strength. He will be competing in Flood Your Face, where he will be forced to drink water and eat bugs, Bushtucker Bonanza, and the Rat Race.
Owen is also a big fan of football and has a strong connection with Leicester City FC. He was a supporter of the club when he was growing up, and is looking forward to returning to the pitch to watch them in the Champions League next year.
Matt Hancock
Matt Hancock was a surprise contestant on I’m a Celebrity 2022, snatching a spot on the panel of the ITV survival show that was back in the Australian jungle for its latest series. His inclusion in the line-up, which also included ex-England footballer Jill Scott and Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner, was one of the biggest talking points for the program.
He was a government minister under Theresa May, and during her tenure led the NHS’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Hancock’s time in office was short-lived, and he resigned in June 2021 after CCTV images emerged of him kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo in his office.
Hancock has a background in business and finance, with degrees from Oxford and Cambridge Universities. He was elected MP for West Suffolk in 2010 and is a member of the Conservative Party. He served as Cabinet Office and Paymaster General under David Cameron, and later as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport before becoming Health Secretary.
While in the jungle, Hancock was subject to plenty of criticism for several controversial decisions. In particular, he was accused of lying about Covid testing hospital patients before they were released into care homes. Boris Johnson branded him “hopeless” and Dominic Cummings, the former adviser to then-PM Theresa May, called him a “cynical, selfish, corrupt politician”. Hancock was removed from the Tory whip and suspended as an Independent MP.
